OUR STORY
Leading people in the pursuit of Jesus to see lives and communities transformed
Freedom Church is a place where the Bible is taught regularly and unashamedly as the word of God and the bedrock of our faith. We are a vibrant community, where everyone is welcome and there is always room for more.
We are a family that loves eating together and seizes every opportunity to have fun. As a house of prayer, we will believe anything is possible, dependant on the power of the Holy Spirit as a natural part of our existence. We will be united and place great value on regularly being together, whether in a large crowd or with only a few.
We will be compassionate to those in need, always looking for new ways to help others. We are generous at every opportunity and will be the first to give. We are a place to encounter God, whether through worship at our Sunday Services or through the deep relationships formed in small groups that meet in homes.
ABOUT
We stand on the shoulders of giants. Freedom Church is result of a God-soaked history.
Our story begins when the foundations of Freedom Church were laid in 1978, when four people started gathering together in a home. This group rapidly grew and Romsey Christian Fellowship was formed, meeting at the English Court, Alma Road. The vision was simply to do Church differently! By 1981 this Church of 40 was renamed New Life Church and, as it continued to grow, in started to meet in larger premises throughout the town, including the Crossfield Hall and, more recently, The Romsey School.
After 30 years of leadership Pastor Peter Light retired in 2013, when the current Senior Leader Sim Dendy took over. In 2015, in order to mark a number of significant changes including the setting up of a Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Debt Centre and the Romsey Foodbank, we changed our name to Freedom Church. Since 2017 we have been actively pursuing the dream of establishing a permanent home for Freedom Church in Romsey.
Freedom Church currently meets at the Romsey School and has a Live Stream available online for those who can't join us in-person. We are also pleased to be part of “Churches Together in Romsey”.
OUR VALUES
These four values are both the hallmark of all of our church activities and the contagious DNA that naturally radiates from the people that call Freedom Church their home. We exist, as a church community, to provide a space in which anyone can encounter God, gather together, grow in their faith and influence change.
