Wrinkled with burdens? Come to Jesus for a faith lift…I’ve always been a fan of the ‘cheesy’ when it comes to Christian sayings!

In 2004 when my daughter was six, we both became Christians. It was a wonderful time. That summer she bought, and proudly wore, a wrist band; the initials on which she happily told me stood for ‘What Would Judith Do?’

A few years back though, the saying ‘Let Go and Let God’ became a bit of a mantra for me. My Christian life had been pretty much plain sailing. I knew who I was, where I was going and that I was loved by my father in heaven. Everything felt safe. Then that all changed; I found myself in a dark place, away from Church and in total chaos. It’s not a story to tell in a blog and it kind of doesn’t matter now. What matters is that in the darkest, most tumultuous times He had my back. He was for me, not against me and he went before me and made a way for me. In that time away from Church (and I wouldn’t recommend it!), I learnt to read my bible in a way I’d never done before, worship from a place that I didn’t know was there, and learn to live for Him in a very real way. When we go through tough times it’s so important, but incredibly difficult to keep our hearts soft.

The Bible tells is in Proverbs 4:23:

Watch over your heart with all diligence for from it flow the springs of life.

This was such a life lesson for me and still is. It’s my nature, when I’m hurt to withdraw from life, but I’ve learnt instead to press into Him.

Several years on and my life is a blast (mainly but not without its challenges). It’s far from the one I thought I’d have but 1000 times richer. So whatever life’s throwing at you right now please be encouraged. Know that He is with you and soon and very soon you’ll be sitting in the sun again.  I learnt so much about myself and Jesus in that dark time.

I’ve learnt that sometimes things get stripped back to basics for a while. That’s ok, in fact it’s beautiful.

…and…if you’re really stuck remember you can always ask ‘What Would Judith Do?’
