Vision, Values and Story
“Leading People in the Pursuit of Jesus, to see Lives and Communities Transformed”
We do this by ensuring that four goals underpin and shape everything that we do. We regularly create opportunities for our whole community to participate in these four things. They are our priorities in all of our activities. These four goals are:
Encounter – “Because we believe that everyone can experience God”
Gather – “Because we believe that together is always better”
Grow – “Because we believe that no-one is finished yet”
Influence – “Because we believe that every person can create change”
We stand on the shoulders of giants. Freedom Church is result of a God-soaked history.
Our story begins when the foundations of Freedom Church were laid in 1978, when four people started gathering together in a home. This group rapidly grew and Romsey Christian Fellowship was formed, meeting at the English Court, Alma Road. The vision was simply to do Church differently! By 1981 this Church of 40 was renamed New Life Church and, as it continued to grow, in started to meet in larger premises throughout the town, including the Crossfield Hall and, more recently, The Romsey School. After 30 years of leadership Pastor Peter Light retired in 2013, when the current Senior Leader Sim Dendy took over. In 2015, in order to mark a number of significant changes including the setting up of a Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Debt Centre and the Romsey Foodbank, we changed our name to Freedom Church. Since 2017 we have been actively pursuing the dream of establishing a permanent home for Freedom Church in Romsey.
Freedom Church currently meets online every Sunday with some Covid-secure activities (such as Foodbank) taking place in our offices on a nearby industrial estate. We are pleased to be part of “Churches Together in Romsey”.
